We remember Christ’s victory over death and the promise of eternal life, as we invite you to make the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
As we come together in prayer, we mourn the loss of our Holy Father – Pope Francis. We also, in the light of resurrection and in the season of Eastertide, celebrate his life, his legacy and the Joy and hope he brought to the world.
By remembering and honouring his life and ministry today we can also recognise the profound impact he has had on the Church and on the world. We can see everyday examples of how his example of faith has shaped the community we are a part of and we ask God today to take him into his loving arms.
As a Church we are all coming together to pray for Pope Francis. This prayer is a special prayer that will be prayed all over the world as people remember Pope Francis – we pray this as our opening prayer today to connect us with whole world.
O God, faithful rewarder of souls,

grant that your departed servant
Pope Francis, whom you made successor of Peter
and shepherd of your Church,
may happily enjoy for ever
in your presence in heaven
the mysteries of your
grace and compassion,
which he faithfully ministered on earth.

GLORY TO YOU O LORD
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marvelling at what had happened.

Pope Francis celebrated the Joy of the resurrection on Easter Sunday at Mass and this Gospel reading reminds us that death is not the end.
It also reminds us of the vital role that those first witnesses played in telling others of the resurrection and of sharing the Good News. Those first visitors to the empty tomb ran back to share the joy and hope of Easter with others and in remembrance of Pope Francis, we too now need to share the joy and hope of our faith with the world.
