It was also announced that he had taken the name Pope Leo XIV (14th).
Pope Leo XIV is the 267th Pope and he is the first American Pope. As we celebrate this Year of Jubilee when we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope, we give thanks that Pope Leo will continue to speak up for those who are poor or marginalised in our world.

Prepare the one You have chosen to be our next Holy Father.
Strengthen him in holiness, compassion, and truth.

Below is a the Celebration of the Word all about our new Pope, Pope Leo XIV.
We begin this celebration of the word with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Yesterday, the words ‘HABEMUS PAPAM’ were exclaimed after we saw white smoke coming from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel. These words mean ‘WE HAVE A POPE’ and they were followed by the world being told it was Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost that had been elected as Pope by the cardinals in the Conclave. It was also announced that he had taken the name Pope Leo XIV (14th).
Pope Leo XIV is the 267th Pope and he is the first American Pope. As we celebrate this Year of Jubilee when we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope, we give thanks that Pope Leo will continue to speak up for those who are poor or marginalised in our world.
The first words spoken Pope Leo XIV were ‘Peace be with all of you’ which were also the first words Jesus spoke to His disciples. Let’s listen to them words now.

GLORY TO YOU O LORD
“On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
