Choose your prayer leaders for this week, get the form time prayer sheet ready and then select the tab with your house name on it.
DAY 1 – GATHER AND THE WORD
We begin this form time prayer, with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
This week is our 5th Week of Lent which means our liturgical colour is what? (Clue: This is the colour of our computer background) Tick the correct colour on your sheet.
The Word of the Week this week is JOURNEY. Make sure this is written on the sheet. Discuss with your form what the word JOURNEY might mean this week.
Our scripture this week comes from Proverbs!
A reading from the book of Proverbs.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God
Make sure to put the scripture or the scripture reference (Proverbs 3:5-6) in the scripture box on your sheet.
Discuss in your form how this scripture links with our theme of JOURNEY? How does this scripture make you feel? Add your forms thoughts to the ‘MESSAGE’ section on the sheet.
As form time prayer comes to an end we think about all the things we may want to pray for about our own Journey. With all these things in our head, we pray together…
Our Father who art in heaven,
Amen
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
We end this form time prayer, with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
DAY 2 – RESPONSE
We begin this form time prayer, with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Revisit the scripture from yesterday that we taking with us throughout the week. Currently, we are focusing on ‘Prayers of Intercession’ which are asking prayers. In mass, we might hear these prayers after the priest has given a homily.
You may want to pray for something that is going on in the news or in our local community at the minute. You may want to use the scripture and the word of the week (JOURNEY) to inspire you in writing the prayers. Using the sentence starters below, create some prayers of intercession.
For the Church, we pray that…
For the world, we pray that…
For those who are sick and suffering, we pray that…
For our local community, we pray that…
For ourselves, we pray that…
To end prayers of intercession, we can say ‘Lord in your mercy…Hear our prayer‘ or Lord hear us…Lord, graciously hear us’
Make sure to write the prayers onto you form time prayer sheet.
Example
For those who are sick and suffering, we pray that they find comfort in knowing that God is always with them, no matter how hard their journey is. Lord in your mercy…Hear our prayer
As form time prayer comes to an end we think about all the things we may want to pray for about our own Journey. With all these things in our head, we pray together…
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
Amen
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
We end this form time prayer, with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
DAY 3 – MISSION
We begin this form time prayer, with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Thinking about all that we have discussed about the word of the week, our scripture this week and the prayers from yesterday, it is time to set our MISSION. The mission should be our way of trying to work as individual or as a community (whichever you choose) to spread what we have learnt this week to the wider community and to other people.
If the word of the week this week was Almsgiving, your mission could be to bring as much food in as possible for the food bank within your form. Discuss in your form what mission you want to set for yourselves on the theme of JOURNEY and then write it on the form time prayer sheet.
Example
Our mission for the theme of journey is to bring in a picture of someone who helps us along our journey, just like Simon of Cyrene helped Jesus in His journey of carrying the cross.
As form time prayer comes to an end we think about all the things we may want to pray for about our own Journey. With all these things in our head, we pray together…
Glory be to the Father
Amen
and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning
is now, and ever shall be
world without end.
We end this form time prayer, with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
