As we come towards the end of this school year we explore the word ‘Celebration’ and what it means to Mr Sitima.
This week, we are in Ordinary Time, which means our liturgical colour is what? (Clue: This is the colour of our computer background) Tick the correct colour on your sheet.
The Word of the Week this week is CELEBRATION. Make sure this is written on the sheet and your form is written in the form box.
To CELEBRATE something to praise and appreciate something. We might celebrate a birthday, celebrate a wedding, celebrate someones life and many more. Mr Sitima described moments of celebration as ‘joyful moments which are given by grace to me from God.’ Answer the following questions either as whole form or in pairs:
What joyful moments have you had in the past few weeks?
What joyful moments do you expect to have during the Summer?
What are some special events we celebrate in the Catholic Church? (e.g. Christmas)

DAY 2 – GOD’S MESSAGE FOR US

Our scripture this week comes from the book of psalms. We don’t know entirely who wrote the book of Psalms but we do know that Jesus Himself prayed the psalms. Most of the time they are sung and they give praise to God. When we pray the Psalms we know that Jesus is right there with us praying them as well.

What do think it means to be glad in the day? Mr Sitima said to us yesterday that every part of his life is a celebration. How could that relate to part of the Psalm ‘This is the day that the Lord has made’?

DAY 3 – OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S MESSAGE

Revisit the scripture from yesterday that we are taking with us throughout the week. Currently, during this Year of Prayer, we are focusing on ‘Prayers of Intercession’ which are ‘asking’ or ‘bidding’ prayers. In mass, we might hear these prayers after the priest has given a homily.

You may want to pray for something that is going on in the news or in our local community at the minute. When writing the prayers, you may want to use the scripture and the word of the week (CELEBRATION) to inspire you. Using the sentence starters below, create some prayers of intercession. You may want to split off in groups and use your mini whiteboards to come up with ideas.

The mission should be our way of trying to work as individuals or as a community (whichever you choose), so that we can share the message from this week with the wider community.

If the word of the week this week was Almsgiving, your mission could be to bring in as much food as possible for the food bank within your form. Discuss in your form what mission you want to set for yourselves on the theme of Gratitude and then write it on the form time prayer sheet.

Think about the news, how often do you get to hear about the positive news and are able to celebrate and embrace it?
Are there enough opportunities in life to celebrate the good things, rather than focusing on the negative things?
Do you use the gift of your marvellous eyes just to see the bad things or the good things as well?
Think to yourself:
How do I often celebrate with those around me who welcome me with open arms?
How do I use my ‘marvellous eyes’ to notice the world around me?
How do I give thanks to God for all of the opportunities I get to celebrate with friends and family?
Is there room in my life to use my ‘marvellous eyes’ more, celebrate and embrace the world around me even further?
Today and this week, try to think about the opportunities you have that you use for celebration. Think about the opportunities that you have or had in your lives. Try to find a way of saying thank you to God for the time you got to celebrate and use your ‘marvellous eyes’ to acknowledge and celebrate the things that have happened to you.
Let us pray that the Spirit continues to fill us and enlighten us today and always, as we pray together:

Choose people from your forms, across school, and family members who deserve to be celebrated. Remember also to celebrate your achievements and events in your lives that should cause us all to rejoice, e.g. weddings, new babies arriving, etc.
Write these as the music plays, then spend time thanking God for these people, rejoicing together and praying for them, giving thanks.
Add your stars to the form boards once they are completed and shared.
This may take a few days, due to form celebrations and commendations, so enjoy time in celebration in any prayerful ways that you can over the final few days! 🙂
